Samsung caught limiting the performance of phones

The well-known, well-reputed, and the world’s most reliable android smartphone manufacturing brand is now on target. Samsung is the world’s No.1 Android smartphone manufacturer in terms of Quality, Reliability, and overall Performance. But after some mishappenings going around, the performance of the Samsung devices seems to be doubtful. Some other companies also appeared to limit the performance of their devices to make their battery timing better. It looks like Samsung is also trying to do the same. This news is spreading dramatically on Twitter and Samsung’s Korean community forums. All this was happening through Samsung’s Game Optimization Service(GOS).

Here is a tweet from Garyeon Han

In his tweet, he said, “Samsung created an app called GOS and used the app to limit game performance, making the gaming experience worse. However, according to what the Korean community found out today, Samsung confirmed that it has put performance limits on more than 10,000 apps…”

According to this tweet, Samsung has put performance limits on more than 10,000 apps. These apps also include the most commonly used apps in our daily life, including TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, etc. The victim apps also have Samsung’s apps like Secure Folder, Camera, etc. Some of the names can also be seen in the tweet by Gareon Han. These apps don’t include benchmarking apps like GeekBench. The score seemed fine in these apps. But some of the users and YouTubers were able to fool the system like this guy

This Youtuber fooled the system by renaming a benchmarking app “3Dmark” to a game’s name called “Genshin.”The results showed that the score was decreased after fooling the system. The score was tremendously reduced from 2618 to 1141.

What about Samsung’s latest S22 series devices?

All this shows that the newly arrived flagship by Samsung, The “S22 Ultra”, might not provide the full potential that it contains because of the Powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Let’s hope Samsung will notice this, which is evident because this news is spreading like fire on social media.

But there is still hope for the people who have bought or will buy the Samsung Galaxy S22 devices because, according to Android Authority, the GOS app was not available. Still, it was available on some other devices of Samsung like Galaxy S21 plus. The scenario is too confusing right now. We cannot say much about this until an official statement by Samsung.

Why companies limit the performance?

It is not wrong to balance out everything like battery life and performance for many applications because many other companies also do that. One thing that should not have happened is that the benchmarking apps are not listed here. Samsung does not want the users to notice the performance limitations made by the Game Optimization Service(GOS). As the name shows, the app is for optimizing apps, but it’s very suspicious to see apps like Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, etc., that have no relation with Games.

It also seems that Samsung is also investigating the matter because there is some news coming from the Korean form

Oneplus is another brand that was once caught being engaged in such practices. It also did not include the benchmarking apps like GeekBench and Antutu in the list of apps being throttled. Oneplus was also justifying that by saying that it was only for battery optimization and heat issues.

Now we have to wait for the justification by Samsung about this news.

Samsung’s Statement

A Korean announcement from Samsung says that they will enable their users to prioritize performance. The machine-based translation of the statement made by XDA DEVELOPERS is as follows:

“We would like to inform you about the Galaxy S22 GOS. We continuously expand user options and provide optimal performance by collecting opinions from customers. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series’ GOS (Game Optimizing Service) is preloaded with our app, optimizing CPU and GPU performance to prevent excessive heat during extended gameplay. To meet the needs of various customers recently, we plan to implement an SW update that provides a performance priority option in the game booster lab within the game launcher app as soon as possible. We will continue to listen to consumers’ opinions and do our best for customer satisfaction and consumer protection.
Thank you.
