There are many DNS errors which you can come across while surfing the web on Google Chrome or any other browser. Out of these, a most frequent one is “DNS Probe Finished No Internet” which is known as “DNS_Probe_Finished_No_Internet”. Today in this post we will learn several easy ways to fix the above-mentioned error. These ways include clearing your browser data, changing the default DNS of your system, using several commands in Command Prompt, etc.
Cleaning up your browser data to solve DNS Probe Finished No Internet error
Sometimes cleaning up the browser data on Google Chrome or any other browser in which you are finding this error, can solve this error. But make sure to first create a backup of your important browser data. To clean up browser data follow the below steps. The steps shown are for Google Chrome as this error occurs frequently there.
First, use Ctrl+H shortcut to access History on Google Chrome
After the History tab opens, select Clear Browsing Data
After that, tick all 3 boxes which are Browsing history, Cookies and Cached images and files, then click Clear data
This will clear your Google Chrome’s browsing data and should solve DNS Probe Finished No Internet problem.
Change the default DNS Server with other DNS Server to fix the DNS Probe Finished No Internet error
By default, your system uses the DNS which is given by your Internet Service Provider(ISP). Due to much more traffic than usual or some other reason, these default servers are sometimes unstable which in-turn increases the response time from these servers. Due to this reason, you can get the DNS Probe Finished No Internet error. To fix this error we will try to change the default DNS Server with Google DNS or Open DNS(third party DNS server). To change the DNS Server follow the below steps.
Go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>View network status and tasks
Then under Connections, click on the network your system is currently connected to
Scroll down and double click on Internet Protocol Version 4
Then type in the following Google DNS address and validate your settings and click OK
After this run Command Prompt as an administrator
Type the following code ipconfig /flushdns
hit enter and then close Command prompt and Reboot your system. This should solve your DNS Probe Finished No Internet error. The above step help you clear all the DNS cache that is currently stored on your system. Also changing the DNS has a lot of benefits like getting access to a lot of blocked websites and content.
Using several commands in Command Prompt together to fix DNS Probe Finished No Internet error
Run Command Prompt as administrator as done in the previous step. Then type in the following commands one after the other, hitting enter after each command.
Type ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip set dns
netsh winsock reset
After that close Command Prompt and reboot your system. this should definitely solve DNS Probe Finished No Internet problem as this method worked in my case. However, the other methods too can be useful in your case. This method clears up all alternate DNS servers set on your system as well as your default DNS thus getting a fresh start to internet access.
Reset your Firewall or other installed application settings to fix DNS Probe Finished No Internet problem
Sometimes it happens that your firewall or some preinstalled application block you from accessing some websites due to security reasons. try uninstalling those applications or resetting them and your firewall. This may solve your problem of accesing those websites and maybe you won’t get the DNS Probe Finished No Internet error further.
Reset your router to get rid of DNS Probe Finished No Internet problem
Firstly you can try disconnecting your router’s power connection for 5-10 mins. After that connect your router to see if the problem is fixed. If its not fixed then reboot your router. The router can be rebooted from its settings which can in-turn be accesed from an URL which is different for different routers. Some of them are given below.

- D-Link – http://192.168.0.1
- Belkin – http://192.168.2.1
- Netgear – http://192.168.0.1.

After you have given your username(default “admin”) and password(“admin”) you can go to System tools>Reboot. After that click the reboot button to reboot your router.
If rebooting your router does not work, try resetting it.
Resetting your router too will give you a fresh start towards all connections.
